The first step in preparing for an active role in First Pages is to read the selected book prior to your arrival on campus. Students may purchase a copy of the book from the University Bookstore beginning June 17th, 2014. The book is also available at most retailers.

As you read the book, remember that this is one way we are establishing a connection between all new students. Think of concerns, questions or comments that you might contribute to the conversation about the book with your new classmates.

Finally, prepare to attend the author’s presentation on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014 (this is a mandatory event for all new students). Author Sheri Fink will discuss her work and answer questions about Five Days at Memorial.

The Northeastern University Library has a wide variety of resources for readers interested in further exploring the context of this year’s selection, including documents and information about healthcare and ethics; reports, videos, and interviews about Hurricane Katrina; and data and statistics on New Orleans.  All of this material is contained in the Library’s webliography.
