Undergraduate Day Students
- Freshmen and Transfer Students that have met the priority filing dates can expect to receive their awards beginning in late March.
- Returning Students who have submitted the FAFSA by the April 1st priority filing date can expect to receive award letters beginning in early June.
- New Students are awarded on an on-going basis throughout the spring after we have been notified that they have been accepted into their program.
- Returning Students that have met the March 1st priority filing deadline are awarded throughout the summer.
- CPS Students are awarded throughout the academic year once we have received all financial aid application materials.
- New Students who have met the February 15th priority filing deadline can expect to receive their award letters in mid-March.

Accepting Your Award
Once all of your information has been submitted and reviewed by our office, an offer of financial assistance will be created for you, outlining the financial aid that you are eligible to receive for the specified academic year. We do not require that you officially accept your offer of assistance. We will assume that you accept the entire aid package unless you specifically notify us that you wish to decline all or part of the award. Please pay close attention to the language contained in the financial aid award letter as it will provide important information about the paperwork and processes that are necessary to obtain certain sources of financial aid.
Declining Your Award
Should you decide to decline any part of your award, we ask that you send an email to your financial aid counselor from your northeastern email address (@neu.edu) indicating the type of aid and amount you would like cancelled.
Reporting Outside Assistance
If you will be receiving any forms of assistance not listed on your offer (such as a scholarship from an outside organization), you need to notify us of this additional resource.
Reduction in Enrollment
Your offer of assistance is based on the expectation that you will be a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours). A reduction to your courseload may result in a reduction or cancellation of your aid.
Changes in Pattern of Attendance
If you change your planned enrollment, your financial aid may need to be adjusted. For example, a change from an in-school term to a co-op term would require a redisbursement of aid.
Most aid is disbursed for in-class terms during which you will be assessed tuition charges. Exceptions include the Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Pell Grant, and state grants.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
Federal and state regulations require that you maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and make continuous progress toward your degree. Merit-based scholarships require a higher GPA for renewed consideration (see your contract for specific information).
Approximately one-third of all financial aid applicants are selected by either the U.S. Department of Education or Northeastern’s Office of Student Financial Services to verify the accuracy of information provided on the FAFSA and CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE. You will be notified by email if you have been selected. If you are a new student, your offer of assistance is tentative pending the completion of the verification process. If you are a returning student, you will not receive a financial aid award letter until the verification process is complete.

Should the verified financial information differ significantly from the original information provided on the FAFSA and CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE forms, your aid may have to be adjusted. Please be sure to respond to requests for follow-up documentation in a timely manner to avoid delays in applying your financial aid as a credit to your student account.
