Table Top Signs
A-frames, or sandwich board signs as they are sometimes called, are the most popular signs we produce. The sign board dimensions are 32 inches wide by 24 inches high. A-frames can be placed around campus to advertise an event or campus organization, or to direct people to an on-campus event.
A-frames are single-sided or double-sided and priced accordingly. The cost pays for the sign and for the use of the A-frame on which it is displayed. The sign is yours to keep, but the frame belongs to the Sign Shop and must be returned to us. Any artwork, logos or graphics you want added that need to be scanned or converted will require an additional fee. Questions regarding logos are addressed in the logo section of this site, on the How to Order page. For pricing information, please see our Price List.
Signs that are set to go out on campus can be distributed by you or by the Sign Shop. We employ a contractor who goes out once every morning to pick up and put out signs on campus. If you want us to put out your signs, let us know in your original order. Please include the day you want the signs out and the locations on campus you would like them to be placed. We provide this service as a convenience to our customers and will maintain your signs within reason. Excessive replacement and changes must be maintained by the customer.
Signs can be placed out on campus for a week at a time. This is a university regulation meant to maintain aesthetic standards of the grounds. Signs left out for weeks at a time have the tendency to begin looking worn. This rule preserves your signs as much as it does the look of the campus. Any signs left out longer than one week may be pulled, either by the Sign Shop or by the grounds department.
Easels are primarily indoor signs, meant to welcome people to a particular event or area. Easel sign dimensions are 24 inches wide by 32 inches high, a portrait layout, and are made of the corrugated plastic material we also use for our A-frame signs.
Easel cost includes the easel sign board only, not the easel stand. The Sign Shop does not provide the easel stand on which to place the sign. Any logos you need on the signs will incur an additional scanning/conversion fee. To learn more about incorporating a logo into your sign and the costs included, please see the logo section of this site on the How to Order page. For pricing information, please see our Price List.
Because easel signs are indoor signs, the Sign Shop does not place easels on campus. That responsibility is left to the customer. We will deliver easel signs to your office, if necessary, but because our sign deliveries begin before 8 a.m., when most buildings are still locked, we do not place them out on campus for your events.
Table Top Signs
Table top signs are exactly what their name suggests. They are small signs for tables or countertops. Typically, they are used by groups who have set up a table at a fair or trade show and are looking to distinguish their area.
Table top signs are typically 16 inches wide by 12 inches high. The size can vary, however, and the cost reflects the sign size. The price also includes a small flap on the back to allow the signs to stand on their own. Any logos you need on the signs will incur an additional scanning/conversion fee. To learn more about incorporating a logo into your sign and the costs included, please see the logo section of this site on the How to Order page. For pricing information, please see our Price List.
The Sign Shop makes banners of varying sizes. Banners come in heights of two feet, three feet and four feet, and in lengths from two to 20 feet.
Banner cost is determined by linear foot length. For example, for a three-foot by six-foot banner, we would charge you by the foot for the six-foot length. Any artwork, logos or graphics you want added will require an additional scanning/conversion fee. Questions regarding logos are addressed in the logo section of this site, on the How to Order page. For pricing information, please see our Price List.
Banners going up inside the Curry Student Center can be of varying sizes, but have a maximum length of 10 feet. The Sign Shop is not involved in the installation of these indoor banners, you must contact the Student Activities Office to arrange placement.
Banners being installed on the Ell Building, across Forsyth Street, on Dodge Hall, the back of the Student Center, or Ryder Hall are each four feet by 20 feet. The cost of these banners starts at $400, except for Forsyth Street, which requires a double-strength banner, starting at $500. The Sign Shop organizes the reservation of these spaces. One installation and removal of a banner is included in the original price. Because we hire an outside contractor to assist in installation, any additional installations require an additional fee.
Reservation of these spaces is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call the Sign Shop at (617) 373-2725 for space availability. You may reserve these spaces up to one year in advance, but you must submit your actual order within two weeks of space reservations. In order to give everyone a fair chance at banner spaces, if your banner order is not received within two weeks, then the your space reservation will be lost.
Engraved plaques are available at the Northeastern Sign Shop for dedications, expressions of appreciation, remembrances and gratitude. Plaques are available in a variety of metallic finishes, including gold, silver, and brass. They also can be matted and framed, which requires collaboration with the Carpentry Shop. Because of this, and because plaques are routed (the Sign Shop only has one router), we request as much advance notice as possible in order to ensure deadline completion. Plaque costs are contingent upon the size and on the materials used. Once you have chosen a size and finish, we can give you an accurate price estimate.
The Sign Shop creates all the signs you see around the university, including the room number plates with the braille engraving located outside office doors. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, all rooms should have a braille number plate outside the door on the same side as the doorknob. If your room does not have a braille room number plate, please fax a request to us at (617) 373-8416 that includes your name, the office number and the plate color of the department (for example, black, blue or green). Because the braille plates are routed, and we have the entire university to maintain, these requests may sometimes take time to complete.
We thank you for your continued patience in this matter.
