The Construction Department of the Facilities Division is responsible
for all estimating, new construction and renovation projects across
campus and is comprised of two major projects departments, Capital
Projects and Special Projects.
Capital Projects
The Capital Projects group has been responsible for the West Campus
Development, Davenport Commons, and the Behrakis Health Science
Complex and most recently, West Village G and H. These projects
have provided over 2700 new beds for housing, 200,000 square feet
of new academic space and 265 additional parking spaces since 1998.
Previous projects included the Egan Research Center, Shillman Hall
and Marino Recreation Center.
Special Projects
The Special Projects group is responsible for new construction,
renovations, scheduling, budget estimating and for building code
compliance, at both the state and local level. The Special Projects
group is also responsible for the renewal of campus facilities that
fall in the range of several thousand dollars up to 20 million dollars.
(Projects greater than 20 million dollars are generally managed
by the Capital Projects Group.) The Special Projects group works
closely with the general contractors who provide the University
with construction management services. Architectural services are
provided both by the University's Space Planning and Design group
or contracted services.
While every effort is made to work with the Facilities
Customer Services in providing notification to building occupants
via email, some disruption should be anticipated in and around any

Current Initiatives
Projects currently underway include West Village F, a mixed use
complex with a 230 bed residence hall, eight general-use classrooms
and a new home for the John D O'Bryant African-American Institute.
The complex is scheduled to be open in September 2006.
