The "Classroom Operation" has the primary objectives of assessment, upgrade, and maintenance of the university's classroom environment. This service is provided through a progressive maintenance system that follows a scheduled rotation through each individual classroom. This operation currently services 282 university classrooms/laboratories located in three locations: Boston (227), Burlington (34), and Dedham (21). During the previous five years, consistent allocation of funding enabled the department to improve various classroom components.
Additionally, our service commitment has actively sought a reduction in the level of deferred maintenance and vandalism. This trend, coupled with an increase in the life span of classroom components (due to preventative maintenance), has increased the longevity of our academic classrooms. Our major goal in the "Classroom Operation" is to ensure that the faculty and student community enters classrooms that are clean, functional, and well stocked. We are achieving this goal and we have noted a higher level of satisfaction among the classrooms' end users. Revitalization of the classrooms is continually sought through assessment of design criteria, and through standardization of components and correction of design flaws. Plant improvement funding, work-order inspections, training, and interdepartmental collaboration are just a few of the internal TQM programs conducted for the promotion of an improved educational environment.
The following goals convey the standards and ideals that have become
associated with the long-term administration of this operation:
Promote quality education and retention of our students and faculty members through an improved physical environment
Remedy of classroom design flaws
Installation of higher quality classroom equipment.
An in-depth cleaning and maintenance program
Modern furnishings and state of the art AV technology
Employee education/training
