As part of our services, we place your a-frame sign(s) directly on campus to your requested locations and pick them up when the event is over. Alternatively, for easel signs, we deliver them directly to your office. Deliveries will not be made to apartments or residences. Please see our list of sign types below to choose what is best for you.
A-frames are temporary outdoor signs and are the most popular signs we produce. The dimensions are 24”x 32” and can be either portrait or landscape, depending on your preference (Please see the permitted sign combinations below.) A-frames can be placed around campus for promotional purposes to advertise an event or campus organization, or for directional purposes to help people find an event in a certain location. A-frames are single-sided or double-sided and priced accordingly. The cost pays for the production of the sign and the use of the display stand for up to 2 weeks. If you would like the sign(s) out for longer than 2 weeks, you will need to pay a nominal weekly rental fee.
Our staff places your a-frame sign(s) directly on campus to your requested locations and picks them up when the event is over. The display stands belong to the Sign Shop, but the sign is yours to keep if you wish. We will store signs for up to one year if you plan to reuse them. Please indicate on the order form if you intend to reuse/keep your signs or not.
Easels are primarily indoor signs, meant to welcome people to a particular event or area. Easel sign dimensions are 24 inches by 32 inches, typically a portrait layout, and are made of the corrugated plastic material we also use for our A-frame signs.
Easel cost includes the easel sign board only, not the easel stand. The Sign Shop does not provide the easel stand on which to place the sign. These can be obtained from Building Services at 617-373-5334.
Stick signs are exactly what their name suggests. They are small signs attached to a stick. Typically, they are used within tour groups to help congregate or lead people. Stick signs are typically 16 inches wide by 12 inches high. The size can vary, however, and the cost will change accordingly. See the “Smaller Signs” section on our Price List.
The Sign Shop makes banners of varying sizes. Banners come in heights of two feet, three feet and four feet, and in lengths from two to 12 feet. Banner cost is determined by the square foot.
Engraved plaques are available for dedications, expressions of appreciation, remembrances and gratitude. Plaques are available in a variety of metallic finishes, including gold, brushed silver, and brass. Because of this, and because plaques are routed (the Sign Shop only has one router), we request as much advance notice as possible in order to ensure deadline completion. Plaque costs are contingent upon the size and on the materials used. Once you have chosen a size and finish, we can give you an accurate price estimate.
ADA Room Signs
The Sign Shop creates all the signs you see around the university, including the room number plates with the braille engraving located outside office doors. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, all rooms should have a braille number plate outside the door on the same side as the doorknob.If your room does not have a braille room number plate, please fill out a work order via myNEU. Because the braille plates are routed, and we have the entire university and its satellite campuses to maintain, these requests may sometimes take more time to complete and we thank you for your continued patience in this matter.
The Sign Shop is happy to provide nameplates for individual offices and suites as needed. If you need to request changes to an existing nameplate or a new nameplate altogether, please fill out a work order via myNEU. Because we have the entire university and its satellite campuses to maintain, and deadline events to attend to, these requests may take extra time to complete and we thank you for your continued patience in this matter.
