Design and Construction within the Facilities Division supports the planning and development of capital project requests in cooperation with Campus Planning and Development and has primary responsibility for the delivery of a wide range of projects from minor renovations to major new construction. The Department maintains a professional staff of architects, engineers and construction specialists to manage capital project delivery as well as in-house design services for small projects.

 

In general, project delivery activities include:

 

  • Selecting Architects/Engineers and Contractors
  • Negotiating and administering design and construction contracts
  • Overseeing/coordinating/integrating the design process
  • Providing in-house design and technical support for smaller projects
  • Managing construction activity including, scope, budget, and schedule
  • Providing construction oversight and quality control in the field
  • Approving invoices, tracking project expenditures and progress

 

NU Guidelines for Capital Project Design & Implementation

The Northeastern University Guidelines for Capital Project Design and Implementation  is intended for use by architects, engineers, designers, consultants, and vendors to convey information regarding university preferences, practices, and purchases for design, construction, and related projects.
This document is intended to describe in a comprehensive manner the guidelines pertaining to implementation of the university’s capital program. The NU project team is responsible for  working with consultants to confirm the extent to which each project can best meet these guidelines.

Featured Construction Project- 177 Huntington Avenue

The renovation of 9 floors at 177 Huntington is an opportunity for the campus to consolidate administrative functions and open up centrally located campus space for expanding academic functions as well as provide new computational research space for growing research needs.
