Employer Hiring Process
Seven easy steps to employing a Northeastern co-op student:
Identify your needs
A co-op director can advise you on the kinds of students are available, what types of tasks are appropriate for a co-op, and how other employers are benefiting from co-op.
Create a job description
The job description form will ask you to describe the company, the position to be filled, and the pay range. Employers submit the job description at least four months before the start of the co-op work period.
Connect with your co-op coordinator
Each co-op job is assigned to one of 50 co-op coordinators, each of whom works with students in a particular college and major. Your co-op coordinator may also refer students from other majors/colleges, depending on the nature and requirements of the job.
A co-op coordinator can help you refine the job and identify appropriate tasks for co-op students.
Review résumés
Co-op coordinators identify appropriate candidates and send you résumés to review. You select the students that you wish to interview.
Interview candidates
You may conduct candidate interviews either at your work site or on campus.
Hire, train, and oversee students
You make the final selections and are responsible for providing the necessary training on the job.
Evaluate your co-op employee
You will complete an evaluation form at the end of the six-month period for each student.
