Freshmen

Students who enter Northeastern as freshmen in September can expect to begin co-op as early as the spring semester of their sophomore year.

During your first two semesters at Northeastern, you'll complete general requirements and begin courses in your major. You'll also take a one-credit introductory course that covers career exploration, professional etiquette, ethics, and job search skills. You may also meet with your co-op coordinator to discuss your goals for co-op.

If you entered Northeastern without declaring a major, you'll explore your options and declare one by the end of your sophomore year. You generally need to declare a major before you can participate in co-op.

Your academic advisor will help you sort through your major options, and the individual undergraduate colleges at Northeastern also have their own support networks to help undecided students choose a major.

Freshmen who enter the University in January may need to defer participation in co-op until their third year at Northeastern. High school students interested in January admission should contact an admissions counselor with questions about co-op.
