International Co-op

Globalization creates an imperative for colleges and universities to prepare students to be citizens of the world.

At Northeastern, international cooperative education is a great way for students to develop the knowledge, awareness, perspective, and confidence to feel comfortable anywhere in the world. The experience gained through an international co-op assignment is significantly broader and deeper than the experience offered in traditional foreign study programs.

Because our renowned approach to learning is characterized by connections to the world, Northeastern is increasingly playing a leadership role on the global stage. Our students pursue meaningful learning opportunities in over 50 countries. Northeastern's new initiative, The Presidential Global Scholars Program will help students secure opportunities to participate in co-op around the world.

Northeastern students can pursue a six-month international experiential learning opportunity in over 100 countries with a wide range of international organizations.  Opportunities exist in a broad range of industries including business, health care, engineering, education, computer technology, policing, biomedical, and communications.

Working and living in a foreign country can present some challenges, but Northeastern takes great pride in the screening and selection process, ensuring that each student is prepared and committed to participate in international co-op. Ideal candidates must be mature, flexible, adventurous, independent, self-motivated, and have a strong academic record while immersing themselves in a new culture.  In return, students will gain intercultural competency, international exposure, and deeper understanding of what it means to be a global citizen.
