Co-op in the College of Criminal Justice

The College of Criminal Justice seeks solutions to problems of crime and justice that go beyond sound bites and “soft” or “tough” rhetoric. We are committed to discovering why some responses to crime are effective while others are not.

This requires cooperating with other disciplines—information technology, psychology, sociology, political science, business, and law—to find innovative responses to crime and public safety that work. For undergraduates in the college, this means co-op opportunities that are broader and more interdisciplinary, to include organizations that sponsor and promote alternative crime prevention programs, social services, victim assistance, and research.

Criminal justice students can add diversity to their résumés with co-op jobs at locations ranging from Boston’s top law firms and corporate security divisions to criminal justice think tanks and child advocacy groups. As the oldest college of criminal justice in the nation, we also offer students the advantage of our deep connections to Boston’s criminal justice community, which provides a valuable network for co-op positions and post-graduation
positions.

Our co-op faculty members are integrated into the college, providing you with plenty of support for your job search, during co-op, and afterwards as you reflect on how the experience dovetailed with your classroom learning. However, as is true of the co-op program throughout the University, you will need to compete for top co-op sites in criminal justice, just as you will for full-time positions after graduation. That is part of the value of co-op in preparing you to succeed as a professional in the field.
