It’s hard to find a better place to study computing and digital communication than Northeastern. The majors that support this area of study—including versatile interdisciplinary combined majors—feature co-op positions with some of the world’s leading software, biotechnology, and design firms.

This field is centered in our College of Computer and Information Science (CCIS), which offers degree programs in computer science and information science, as well as combined majors with biology, business, mathematics, multimedia studies, music technology, physics, and cognitive psychology.

Outside CCIS, you can approach the field from its theoretical underpinnings, as a mathematics major; from its design and engineering angles, as a student in computer engineering or electrical engineering; or from any one of several applied aspects, in multimedia studies, music technology, management information systems, or computer engineering technology.

The co-ops that you will find within these varied disciplines offer experiences that are at the leading edge of technology in the digital age. Within the computer science majors, these range from demanding positions in areas like database integration, network administration, or programming, to advanced research co-ops that enable you to apply your computer skills to the search for new knowledge in technology-based life sciences such as bioinformatics and biomedical physics.
