Monetizing Technology Assets
Dr. Shann Kerner and Dr. John M. Garvery will talk about the financial implications of intellectual property pertinent to business. They will lead a discussion on the kinds and uses of various forms of intellectual property, and issues relating to translating innovation into property rights. They will also discuss how these assets can be used to capitalize companies, to provide for revenue streams, and to form the basis of strategic business relationships.
Dr. Shann Kerner is a partner in the Intellectual Property Corporate Dept. of the Boston office of K&L Gates LLP. Shann counsels all stages of biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies on how to protect their innovations as patents, leverage their IP portfolios, and assert their ownership rights to these IP portfolio via IP litigation. Prior to her legal career, Dr. Kerner was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and held a joint appointment at Children's Hospital, Boston.
Dr. John M. Garvey is a partner in the Intellectual Property Corporate Dept. of the Boston office of K&L Gates. John works with emerging technology and life-science companies, advising clients on the creation of proprietary brands and technology assets, and monetization of these assets in connection with client business objectives.
