Investigates, analyzes, and addresses one of the core questions surrounding microfinance: Can business, through microlending programs, truly address the needs of the desperately poor (3 billion people living on two dollars or less per day) in a meaningful, scalable, and sustainable way? Engages students in a theoretical analysis and practical examination of the field of microfinance. Examines the impact of microcredit and microenterprise development on alleviating extreme poverty in developing countries. Prereq. Sophomore standing or above.
