There are many ways to get help from WC staff:
In-Person Consulting at 2 Locations
At our 412 Holmes location, you can make an appointment to sit down face-to-face with a Consultant for 45 minutes. To make the most of their time, please bring a copy of the assignment you want to work on, any suggestions your professor has made so far on this or other writing, and realistic expectations of what can be accomplished in 45 minutes. You may book an appointment here. Walk-in appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please see our policies.
At our 136 Snell Library location (behind the Argo Tea), appointments are on a walk-in basis, first-come, first served. We do our best to accommodate all students that want to use our walk-in services, but there is always the possibility of a slight wait. Grab a cup of tea while you review your paper, until a consultant is free. As with Holmes, appointments are limited to 45 minutes.
We now offer asynchronous consultations through WCOnline. Students may upload their writing to WCOnline, and our E-tutor will respond and upload their comments within 48 hours of the appointment time. To use this service, book an appointment and upload your writing – be sure to mention what you’d like our E-Tutor to discuss and comment upon. For example, “I’d like to get suggestions on how better to organize the structure of this essay. I’m also struggling with logic and argument.” If you have an electronic copy of the assignment, you should upload that as well; be as specific as possible in indicating what kind of feedback you need. Your feedback can be found by simply logging in to your appointment. You’ll see your E-tutor’s response!
We ask that once you make your appointment you make every attend to keep it. After your upload your paper, our consultants are busy providing guidance for your project!
If you want to learn about citation or grammar, you should select a synchronous appointment (mobile chat or in-person); eTutoring appointments are not meant to serve as a proofreading service.
If you have a pressing deadline, or live far away from campus, consider signing up for our new mobile consulting option. Like in-person consulting, this is a real-time, 45-minute session with a Writing Consultant. Our mobile sessions are offered through our WC Online system; you may book and access your online (mobile) appointment here.
If you are working on a group project and would like to have your group meet with a consultant, simply have one of your group members book an appointment with us. When you sign-up for your appointment, list the group members that plan to attend the session.
We now offer workshops on demand! If you have 10 students interested in getting help on any topic, we will come to you! For more information, visit our Workshops on Demand tab.
