Annual Contests and Awards
Graduate Student Essay Prizes
Each Spring, the English Department awards prizes for essays written for a graduate course in the preceding calendar year. Contest entries are due at the end of January. Essays are read by a panel of graduate faculty who make recommendations to the Graduate Studies Committee. One winner and two top finalists will receive monetary awards and will be honored at the end-of-year Graduate Programs reception.
Submissions should include a cover sheet with: the essay title, the student’s name, the name of the course, and the instructor’s name. The essay title should also appear on the first page of the body of the essay, but the student’s name should not appear anywhere in the essay, because judging is anonymous.
If you have any questions, contact Melissa Daigle (email@example.com).
MA Comprehensive Exam Medalist
The MA Comprehensive Exam Medalist receives the most grades of “pass with distinction” on the MA Comprehensive Examination. Each Spring, the Medalist receives a monetary award and is honored at the end-of-year Graduate Programs reception.
