G. Ruth Bork
Assistant
Dean and Director As the assistant dean and director of the Disability Resource Center, Ruth Bork works to ensure that all members of the Northeastern community, its visitors and its guests have access to all university programs, as afforded them under the Americans with Disability Act. To that end, she is responsible for establishing and monitoring university-wide policies, procedures, services and accommodations. In addition, she is responsible for educating faculty and staff about issues related to higher education and disability or deafness. Areas under Bork’s direction, in addition to the broad range of visible and invisible disabilities, include Deaf services and the learning disability program. Bork began her Northeastern career in 1970 in the Division of Cooperative Education. During her tenure there, she wrote a grant that helped establish what ultimately became the Disability Resource Center. She is recognized in her field as an expert on working with students with head injuries and Asperger's Syndrome, as well as high school-to-college transition for students with disabilities, and has presented widely on these topics. Bork holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s in educational administration from Northeastern. She has also completed postgraduate work in rehabilitation counseling. | ||
