Meet the Executive Board

President

Daniel Donnelly
donnelly.dani@northeastern.edu

Daniel is a PhD student at Northeastern University studying Chemistry. He uses experimental and theoretical vibrational spectroscopy to study the hydration dynamics of macromolecules.

Vice President

Sam Jackson Smith
smith.samj@northeastern.edu

Jackson graduated from Georgetown University in 2016 with a B.S. in chemistry and a minor in mathematics. He worked for a division of Thermo Fisher Scientific as a lab assistant for a pharmaceutical formulation science group for two years before returning to graduate school. He now works in the Smotkin research group at Northeastern University, and his graduate research focuses on the use of perovskites as catalysts for intermediate temperature organic reactions.

Faculty Advisor

Eugene Smotkin

617-373-7526

Dr. Smotkin is a Chemistry and Chemical Biology professor at Northeastern University. His lab conducts research on better materials for clean energy sources and processes. This includes the development of catalysts and supports for electrochemical reactors for synthesis, power generation and environmental remediation.

Past Board Members

Secretary

Thomas Stracensky

Thomas graduated from Northeastern University in January 2023 with a PhD in Chemistry. While pursuing his degree, he utilized Northeastern’s co-op opportunities to work as a graduate student intern at Los Alamos National Laboratory. His research and dissertation focused on 1) optimizing synthetic pathways for creating improved catalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction activity, and 2) finding relationships between solvent parameters and physical/electrochemical properties for non-aqueous redox flow batteries.

Treasurer

Yue Li

Yue obtained a Masters in Energy Systems from Northeastern University. His interests in electrochemistry have driven him to work towards battery technologies like High Speed Galvanostatic Intermittent Titration Technique (GITT) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to compliment his research studies.

President

Loupe Neili A.B.

Neili obtained her PhD in Chemistry from Northeastern University in 2018. Her research focused on studying state of hydration for Nafion ionomers using IR-spectroscopy.

Vice President

Doan Huong

Secretary/ Treasurer

Alsudairi Amell

Former Members

Christopher Durkee

Chris was an undergraduate student at Northeastern University pursuing a degree in Chemistry. He currently works for SES, a company focusing on Li-metal battery research.

Michael Eck

Michael was a PhD student studying Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University.

Amissi Sadiki

Amissi obtained his PhD in Chemical Biology from Northeastern University. He has multiple cited publications and most was a Visiting Scientist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 2020. He currently works as a scientist at NIRA Biosciences.
