Blackboard

Blackboard is a learning management system that allows instructors to create, deliver, and manage web-based components for courses. It can be used to add online elements to a traditional course, or to develop completely online courses with few or no face-to-face meetings.

Features

Some of the features available through Northeastern's version of Blackboard are:

• course announcements
• asynchronous threaded discussion
• synchronous group chat, with or without tools such as white board, group web browser, course browser, and more
• online quizzes and surveys, with automated grading and statistics capacity
• course assignment and documents areas
• online file sharing and digital submission of assignments
• timed release of quizzes and other course materials
• student rosters, e-mail, and online gradebook
• group project areas
• individual student blogs

Blackboard course pages are easy to create. Instructors use built-in templates to generate course content pages, announcements, quizzes, discussions, and many other types of interactive content. Course materials can be entered directly into the Blackboard system, or written offline using any software you choose, and then uploaded into the Blackboard course site.
