Tech Trends for Teaching Day was a hit!
A small but dedicated crowd joined EdTech Center, ATS/IS and the Snell Library's Digital Media Design Studio for a day of Tech Trends for Teaching. Attendees saw short demos of current trends in technology and learned how to get started using them in their teaching.
What are mashups, Second Life, collective intelligence and citizen journalism? How are instructors using Blogs, Flickr and YouTube in teaching? How can I get started with podcasting and digital stories?.
Topics included:
- Educational and creative uses of wikis and blogs, including pointers on using them in Blackboard.
- Podcasting and Webcasting, with information on Northeastern's iPod Project, iTunes U and different methods of integrating podcasting both in and outside of the classroom.
- How to integrate Collaborative Media (Flickr, YouTube, and Slideshare) via sites like Flickr and YouTube, which allow users to easily post and share media files.
- Digital stories, with an overview of the steps and a list of free or inexpensive tools you can use to get started.
- YouTube Favorites for Teaching & Learning, a film festival of entertaining and educational clips
- New Trends: Mashups, Citizen Journalism, Collective Intelligence, explored emerging technologies that help Web consumers make the Internet a more dynamic forum, such as Web 2.0, and their relevance for teaching, learning, and creative expression.
- Google Tools: GoogleEarth, GoogleDocs, described the tools and how to use them in and outside the classroom to help you organize information efficiently.
- Second Life - Tour of Second Life Virtual World, a guided tour of Second Life and information on how to started using it.
