The EdTech Buzz
Innovative teaching andlearning projects

January 2005
Each semester, the Center for Experiential Education & Academic Advising (CEA) awards Co-op Grants, CEA-Way Scholarships and Study Abroad Grants to students from the College of Arts and Sciences who have demonstrated excellence in experiential education. For the past few months Justin Repici from CEA has collaborated with internet systems developer Sue Aman to develop the Profile Creator Tool. This tool allows winners to develop electronic profiles that highlight their achievements and generates a portal to showcase winners' accomplishments.
Aman is developing a password protected, web-based form which aggregates information such as major, email address, advisor, year of award, term completed and a description of the student's experience. This form also allows the student to upload files which demonstrate each experience. A portal is then dynamically generated, listing the award winners by year with an abstract for each linking to the respective profile.
The electronic profiles will allow the award winners to effectively demonstrate their achievements to faculty and prospective employers. The portal is designed to serve three different audiences: students, faculty and staff, and co-op employers. Current students and prospective students in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) will benefit from seeing other students' accomplishments; faculty and staff will gain insight and develop new ideas for their own programs and classes; and co-op employers will be able to see what the CAS student is doing in experiential education.
CEA will launch the profile creator tool and portal in the Spring semester.
