Northeastern Writing Eportfolio Inquiry Group

Faculty using eportfolio software in First Year Writing and Advanced Writing in the Disciplines classes meet regularly to share insights and develop their teaching practice. Since faculty in the writing program began implementing electronic portfolio software in their classes in Fall 2010, they have met several times a semester to discuss how using eportfolios is affecting their teaching practice and to share questions and insights. Supported by EdTech instructional designer, Laurie Poklop, an original group of seven instructors has grown to seventeen, whose classes impact approximately 1200 students per year. The focus of the inquiry group is determined each semester by the members. Topics have included how eportfolios influence instructors’ thinking about the core principles of their practice, the impact of eportfolios on different students groups and on power relationships in the classroom, and how instructors read and evaluate eportfolios.
