How to set up Find My iPad, for FREE

Did you know Apple has a way for you to find your iPad or iPhone from a web browser if it’s lost or stolen? They do, and it’s great, but it does have to be enabled BEFORE you loose your mobile device! Previously, it was also tied in to a mobile me account, but now it’s a free service from Apple that you can sign up for using the link below. In our testing we found it to be very easy to setup and use, but there are a few additional things you should know:

  1. If you have an iTunes account already set up, you can use that account to sign-up for the service. When you do, it may ask you to create a password that’s more secure if your iTunes password is very simple. If this happens it will prompt you to head to another page on apple’s web site, but it’s easy enough to do.
  2. If you're signing up for a free account, you do need to have the latest iOS (4.2); If you're using mobile me you can use any version from 3.1.3 on (though we only tested with 4.2).
  3. If you do set up the service, you can use it to remotely find, lock, or wipe your phone. But be careful, cause once it’s wiped, you’ve wiped all the settings and you will no longer be able to find it.
