Delivering Lectures

A podcast published in Blackboard is an easy way to provide information to your students. Many students will even be able to view or listen to podcasts on mobile devices.

To record a podcast, you will need to have to have a microphone or web cam built into your computer or one that you can plug into your computer (often via a USB port).

You can produce new material in either pdf, audio or video format with the tools listed below:

  • Acrobat Pro will allow you to “print” files as pdf files once Acrobat is installed on your computer.
  • An alternative to Acrobat Pro for creating PDF files is the free "PDFCreator" available here.
  • Macintosh computers can print to pdf in the print dialog box.
  • Audacity is a free audio recording tool that allows you to record your voice and save mp3 files. Download it here.
  • Garageband is another audio recording application (for Macintosh only). It is part of Macintosh’s iLife Series. See the tutorial.

After recording and producing your podcast, you will need to publish your files. Blackboard is the easiest method because it will allow your students to have immediate access to your materials. Blackboard accepts audio, video, pdfs and standard MS Office documents.
