You don’t have to outrun the bears, just the competition

Northeastern University Professor Barry Bluestone gave a lecture of sorts at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting last Tuesday, covering the town’s economic prospects, the recent presidential election and life in the little town of Truro.

Bluestone also singled out one of his former students.

After working with more than 3,000 undergraduates during his career at Boston College, UMass and now, Northeastern, Bluestone said that former student and now director of Plymouth’s Economic Development Foundation, Jessica Casey, was one of the top three students he had ever taught.

Ostensibly Bluestone was only at the selectmen’s meeting to give context to the Economic Development Self-Assessment Tool (EDSAT) report the town just received.

That report is a cut and dry analysis of how the town can convince businesses to locate here.

To summarize, Plymouth should streamline its permitting process. “Otherwise, you are doing very well,” Bluestone said.
