Westford aces economics

When it comes to economic development, Westford has one of the strongest municipalities in the state, according to an analysis of economic growth and opportunity completed through Northeastern University, with a multitude of strengths and its main weakness in the timeliness of town approvals.

The Economic Development Self-Assessment Tool, from the Kitty and Michael Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy, is an online assessment that identifies a town or city’s capacity for economic development.

Seventy-eight Massachusetts communities have completed the assessment, and of those, Westford performed exceptionally well, according to Barry Bluestone, director of the Dukakis Center.

“I think Westford had more strengths than virtually all the rest,” he said.
