Join Our Singing Family!

The only thing The Downbeats love more than singing is each other and we’d love for you to join our little family!
If you’re new to campus or an old husky looking for a new adventure and you enjoy singing or have crazy beatboxing skills then look no further than this fun-loving co-ed a cappella group (whew that was a long sentence)

Fall Auditions will be held the weekend of September 10-11, in Ryder Hall.

Here’s how the whole thing works:
Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and sing. You’ll need to prepare a 1 minute solo that will be done a cappella of any song that shows off your voice (a verse and a chorus usually works)!
After your solo you’ll be asked to sing a few scales within your range, do some simple sight reading, and complete a few pitch matching exercises.

If you’d like to sign up to audition, please click the following link and fill in all the required fields. Walk-ins are always welcome as well!

Register for an audition here!

Please forward any questions you have to or message us on facebook!
We look forward to hearing you sing! :)

A Finished Year

It’s just another day in the super exiting lives of The Downbeats. We’ve finished recording our EP entirely and it’s now in the process of being edited! We truly cannot wait for our friends, family, and fans to hear the result of all of the hard work and dedication that was put into making this happen! We also can’t stress enough how thankful we are for everyone who donated to us and made it possible to fulfill a dream we all as musicians have shared. Our first single will be out in the summertime and the entire EP will be available for download come Fall.

We ended the semester and year strong with a joint spring concert with our friends and fellow Northeastern group, Distilled Harmony. Our set that we worked all semester on will be up on youtube for the public soon enough and you’ll be able to find it here on our website as well as on our facebook page.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past school year, we can’t wait to come back strong in the Fall and show the a cappella community what The Downbeats are made of :)

We’ve been funded!

We have some exciting news from the Downbeats – after just two months of fundraising on Kickstarter, we’ve reached our goal of $6,000 to record a new EP! Hooray!

We cannot stress enough how thankful we are for all of our family, our friends, and most importantly, our FANS for making this dream a reality. Seeing all the support we’ve received has frankly been so overwhelmingly heartwarming, and we felt that our thanks could not be expressed only using words. So, in between studying for our classes and treating ourselves to some spontaneous Five Guys, we have been passionately working towards not only some fan appreciation videos, but also some personalized posters for all of our generous backers. Stay tuned for updates – we couldn’t have made it without you!

In addition to our EP, we also have our annual Spring Concert coming down the pipe! Save the date for April 8th – you don’t wanna miss out on all the fun new songs we’ve been working on!

Kickstarter Campaign

IMPORTANT DOWNBEATS ANNOUNCEMENT: We’re in the process of recording an EP!!!!

For the first time in years, The Downbeats will be heading back into the studio to record 5-6 arrangements including some Downbeats Greatest Hits and some new, unheard arrangements! ARE YOU AS EXCITED AS WE ARE!?!

BUT, due to our status as “broke college youth” we are unable to fund this EP on our own terms, so we need YOUR HELP. We’re looking to raise $6,000 to cover recording costs. This number looks scary, we know, but we know that, through the help of our generous fans, we can get there! We’ve started a Kickstarter page and are asking for any contribution you can make. Our project will only be funded if we reach our goal by January 24th so please help in any way you can! NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL!

We’d love for you all to hear what we can create for you and we know, with your help, that we can make it happen!

We had our annual fall show this past Saturday, and it was a big success! The theme of this year’s show was SlumberBeats: An A Cappella Pajama Party. We came dressed in our cutest and most comfortable sleepwear, and encouraged our audience to do the same, while we sang the latest, most aggressively fun jams. We also want to give a huge thanks to our two guest groups, the Suffolk Ramifications and the BU Allegrettos, for looking totally slumber-ful and sounding amazing! Not only did we all had a ton of fun, we also had a chance to showcase the newest songs in our repertoire, as well as the beautiful voices of our babybeats for the first time. This is the start of an awesome year for The Downbeats!
