LASO's Annual Cultural Show - Sunday, March 18th, 2012

2-5pm, Curry Student Center Ballroom

Join LASO for the 2012 Annual Culture Show! This year they will be exploring the Latin cultural aspect of dancing. They will be hosting various Latin dance groups from other Boston universities, groups from community organizations and Northeastern dance groups! They will be having performances of all different types, including Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata. They will be also having Latin food at the event and a special drawing.

Professional Photographer and member of Northeastern University’s African American Master Artists in Residence Program, Don West’s passion has been to use his talent to profile all kinds of people — ordinary and extraordinary. He captures the events which shape their lives, with their families and in their struggle for what they believe.  His work has taken him to Latin America, Spain, China and Jerusalem.  Gallery 360 will showcase images that tell stories from across the globe beginning March 17th, 2012 and running through May 31st, 2012. Refreshments will be provided at the reception.

Safe Zones Training - Monday March 19th, 2012

7-8:30pm, 325 Shillman

Safe Zone seeks to educate participants on issues faced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) individuals and their Allies. The Safe Zone purpose is to raise awareness of LGBTQ issues and concerns within the Northeastern community and beyond.

NU students’ from the Physical Therapy program will be discussing their perspectives on providing services at Boston’s Healthcare for the Homeless program.

One Big Hapa Family - Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

After a realization at a family reunion, half Japanese-Canadian filmmaker, Jeff Chiba Stearns, embarks on a journey of self-discovery to find out why everyone in his Japanese-Canadian family married interracially after his grandparents’ generation. This feature live action and animated documentary explores why almost 100% of all Japanese-Canadians are marrying interracially, the highest out of any other ethnicity in Canada, and how their mixed children perceive their unique multiracial identities. This documentary follows a short clip and discussion on being mixed-race on Northeastern’s campus. Food will be provided.

All Voices Be Heard: The Importance of Political Engagement - Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

6-9pm, AfterHours

This event will bring into focus the effects of diversity on politics. The event will feature a brief introductory satire on the importance of NOT voting, followed by a screening of "Street Fight", a documentary that follows the 2002 Newark mayoral race, exploring the impact of race and poverty on a heated political contest reminiscent of a David and Goliath battle. Concluding the night will be a panel of community leaders, local politicians, and civic activists, facilitating discussion on the correlation of diversity and politics in our local Boston community.

Gforce Sports strives to create a dialogue that changes the perceived differences between gay and straight athletes.  Their advocacy foscuses on education of athletes, particularly youth, through panel discussions with the audience.  Panelists include USA and Boston Breakers soccer star, Angela Hucles and former UPENN ice hockey captain, Dave Farber.  Supported and moderated by Hockey's Burke family.
