General Meeting – Kylie Bemis
April 11, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Please join us in hearing from our next speaker Kylie Bemis! Hope to see you there! About our speaker: "Kylie Ariel Bemis is a Postdoctoral Future Faculty Fellow in CCIS at Northeastern University, where she develops statistical computing frameworks for high-dimensional biological imaging experiments. She earned her BS in Statistics and Mathematics from Purdue University in 2010, following by an MS in Applied Statistics in 2011 (also from Purdue). She then went on to earn a PhD in Statistics in 2016, again from Purdue. At Purdue, she served as president of the Purdue chapter of AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) and secretary of NASA (Native American Student Association). She is active in outreach to the Native American and LGBTQ communities and is an enrolled member of the Zuni tribe. Kylie's long-term research goals are informed by her interest in complex data and her identity as an indigenous trans woman; she would like to apply her knowledge to computational linguistics and natural language processing as a way of preserving Zuni culture, as well as to biomedical research on how hormone therapy affects the proteome and epigenome."
