Majors and Minors

Undergraduate Majors and Minors

CSSH offers 40+ majors and minors covering a wide variety of fields and disciplines.

Some majors offer a Bachelor of Science degree and some offer a Bachelor of Arts degree; other majors also offer both BA and BS programs. Many programs are flexible enough to allow students to pursue a double major, a major and a minor, or a combined major. CSSH also offers students the opportunity to create an independent major in cases where their interests and goals are not met by existing majors.

The list of CSSH majors and minors below demonstrates the vast array of offerings that exist. The Office of the Registrar’s undergraduate catalog gives an official and up-to-date listing of all academic programs and their requirements.

Combined Majors

For students wanting to link concepts across disciplinary boundaries, and even across colleges at the university, an integrated combined major allows undergraduates to merge two majors together. Combined major options are limited to those combinations for which faculty from two majors have identified nine or more courses from each major, plus an additional one or two “capstone” or integrative courses, that specifically help students link the concepts learned in both majors. In addition to choosing a pre-approved combination, students may propose their own combined major.  This process requires approval by both disciplines/colleges together with an approved curriculum.

For more information about combined majors and for a list of pre-approved combined majors, please visit the Registrar’s web page on combined majors.

PlusOne Programs

Northeastern also offers a number of sequential and combined bachelor/master’s degree programs through the PlusOne program, which allows students to accelerate by applying graduate credits taken as an undergraduate toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. Motivated and academically outstanding students should consider one of our degree programs and earn an integrated degree now.

3+3 Program

Northeastern University’s 3+3 Program is offered by invitation only to a select group of first-year students admitted into history, philosophy, or political science majors. Created through collaboration between CSSH and Northeastern’s School of Law, this program gives qualified undergraduate students the opportunity to accelerate and earn both a bachelor’s and juris doctor degree in just six years.
