Becoming a Tutor

Becoming a Peer Tutor is a great on-campus part-time employment opportunity for qualified upper class NU undergraduate students. It is also a great leadership and a resume building opportunity that offers a rewarding community-building experience . It allows for flex time; tutors set their own work schedule (minimum commitment of 5 hours per week M-F 9am-6pm). Upper-class students  who meet the qualifications are encouraged to apply to become peer tutors (freshmen, transfers, and native modern language speakers (ARAB, CHNS, FRNH, GRMN, HBRW, ITLN, JPNS, PORT, RSSN, and SPNS can apply during their second semester at NU).  Students with GPA over 3.0, A or A- in courses taken at NU which they plan to tutor, and strong faculty support may apply for a Peer Tutor in Training position by contacting the  Program Manager Maggie Loscuito at  or the Program Director Tina Kondopoulos at to set up an interview. The interview is the first step on the tutor application process. A Tutor Application will be given to the applicant at the end of the interviewing process. The Tutor Application includes a Faculty Recommendation Form so there is NO need for the applicants to solicit a faculty recommendation letter for this position. Recruiting is ongoing however the pick recruiting periods are at the beginning and at the end of each semester.
