Case Watch

The assault on the civil rights movement was multifaceted and pervasive. It persisted over decades. CRRJ's Case Watch and its Workshop provide information on the cases, advocacy, and, where appropriate, legal representation to the victims of civil rights era violence.

Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crime Act
On October 7, 2008 President Bush signed into law H.R. 923, the Emmmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crimes Act of 2007. The measure calls for appointment of a special agent in the civil rights unit of the FBI to supervise investigations of cases occurring prior to 1970; grants to state and local law enforcement agencies for expenses associated with the investigation and prosecution of the crimes; support for investigation and prosecution by the Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice; and an appropriation to the Community Relations Service of the Department of Justice. Congress has not yet funded the Act.
