With Presentations at ACMT Conference, Huerta-Montañez Continues Strong Community Education in Puerto Rico

On March 30th and April 1st, Dr. Gredia Huerta-Montañez presented at the American College of Medical Toxicologists (ACMT) Annual Scientific Meeting. The ACMT is “a professional, nonprofit association of physicians with recognized expertise in medical toxicology.” The theme of this year’s event was “Toxicologic Impact: Research, Practice, Teach” and was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Huerta-Montañez’s first talk, “Mosquito Control Methods” was a part of a Zika-focused Satellite Session for the event which was open to the public. The subject of her second talk was also Zika, specifically focusing on educating audience members on the role of vector management in controlling the spread of the virus. Huerta-Montanez has taken on an active role with the CRECE team this past year, working with both the Human Subjects Core (HSC) and the Community Outreach and Translation Core (COTC), primarily serving as a pediatrician in the CRECE Clinic.

Huerta-Montañez’s presentations at the ACMT event were just two of a long streak of efforts to educate and engage with the community about environmental health challenges in Puerto Rico, particularly those relating to the Zika Virus. In the past year, she has presented in various places and on various topics across the island and mainland U.S. See the full list of her CRECE presentations below.
