While many students participate in co-op, it is only one of many options that the university offers its students in the area of experiential education. Northeastern’s reach extends into the surrounding community and around the world through study, research and service-learning projects.
Dialogue of Civilizations
Dialogue of Civilizations is a series of “global student exchanges” between students at Northeastern University and students around the world. The goal of each program is (a) to connect students with their peers in different national, cultural, political, and social environments and (b) to provide students with a “global experience” that builds upon and enhances their academic studies and training in Boston. This exchange program is available in over 55 countries and typically offered during the summer 1 or summer 2 semesters.

Northeastern’s innovative study-abroad programs offer more than just classes. The University has extensive overseas contacts in 23 countries, allowing students to immerse themselves in other cultures by undertaking independent research projects, working at international co-op jobs or taking classes at foreign universities.

Service learning, which gives students a chance to gain academic knowledge while working in a community-based organization, can be incorporated into virtually any class.
