There are several opportunities for alumni, parents, and friends to support the work of the Marine Science Center:
Marine Science Center Discretionary Fund
- Donations to this fund provide unrestricted support, used at the discretion of the Center Director, where the need is the greatest. Funds may enhance academic programs, student scholarship, and/or faculty development. Donations to this fund may be left unrestricted or directed to Undergraduate or Graduate Research Fellowships. If you would like your donation to be earmarked for a fellowship, please make a note in the Special Instructions box.
Nathan W. Riser Memorial Fellowship Endowment Fund
- In honor of Dr. Nathan W. “Pete” Riser, the founding director of the Marine Sciences Institute (now the Marine Science Center), donations to this fund student research in marine science. Doc was director until 1979, and he officially retired from the Northeastern faculty in 1985. He continued working in his laboratory nearly every day, and maintained an active research program until his death in 2006.
Coastal Ocean Science Academy Scholarship Fund
- Supporting the MSC’s commitment to preparing the next generation of marine scientists and broadening participation in our field, donations to this fund enable middle and high school students from underserved and/or underrepresented communities to participate in our summer Coastal Ocean Science Academy. Over 100 students have benefitted since this scholarship began in 2010.
Research, education, and outreach programs at the Marine Science Center are made possible by the generous support of alumni, neighbors, colleagues, and friends.
