On May 23, 2013 the College of Science at Northeastern University hosted the Sustaining Coastal Cities conference. It was a day-long conference on the critical role and fragile state of marine ecosystems.

This is an audio recording of Larry Crowder’s lecture, “Sustainability in small scale fisheries: Lasting change depends on social context and functional institution.” Crowder is science director at the Center for Ocean Solutions; professor of biology at Hopkins Marine Station; and a Senior Fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, both part of Stanford University.
