John Urban comes to Northeastern with more than 20 years experience in business and government.  As a Senior Officer for Corporate Advancement, he works to expand the University’s relationships with key business partners.

Urban’s corporate experience includes work as a regional and corporate vice president for New York-based Cablevision Systems Corporation.  He had previuosly worked as Vice President and General Manager of Community Communications of New Jersey, a start-up subsidiary of Tie/Communications.

In addition to his private sector experience, Urban has led three state agencies, serving as Chairman of the Massachusetts Cable Television Commission, Director of the Mass Office of Business Development, and Executive Director of the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment.

He has served on a number of boards, including the New England Cable Television Association, Boston Municipal Research Bureau, and the Massachusetts Corporation for Educational Telecommunications.

Early in his career, he was a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the State University of New York-Institute of Technology, where he taught 3rd and 4th year undergraduate courses in telecommunication management and policy.  He has a BA from American International College and a MPA from George Washington University.
