Areas of Study

Cooperative education at Northeastern University is a flexible, interdisciplinary learning program that supports a wide range of academic interests and study areas within and across the colleges.

Although the program is structured around the six undergraduate colleges, students are able to pursue co-ops outside of their majors and home colleges as long as they meet the academic requirements and the basic qualifications for the position.

This kind of flexibility adds exponential value to co-op as a learning tool for any student who seeks to create his or her unique career path after graduation.

For example, a management student in the College of Business Administration who is interested in corporate security can pursue a security position with one of the College of Criminal Justice’s corporate co-op partners. Or a music industry student in the College of Arts and Sciences can gain valuable insight into founding a record label by landing a College of Business Administration co-op with an entrepreneurial focus.
