The Student Civic Engagement Grant opportunity available through the Center of Community Service provides financial and programmatic support to students and/or student organizations engaging in mutually beneficial community partnerships.

Goals of the Student Civic Engagement Grant:

  • Support and address identified community needs.
  • Encourage new and creative programs and/or projects from Northeastern University students in partnership with our community to create positive change.
  • Encourage existing Northeastern University students and student organizations to integrate or expand civic engagement activities.

Up to three grants are awarded to proposals demonstrating the most innovative use of the funds to create or strengthen a community service partnership.  Information for the 2014 Student Civic Engagement Grants will be available in November 2013.

2013 Grant Awardees:

Mural Club
The Mural Club at Northeastern was awarded a grant to fund a mural project at the Yawkey Boys and Girls Club in Roxbury.  The 18'x10' wall mural was painted in four scenes, each depicting a step in the process of two students accomplishing their dreams of becoming a teacher and a marine biologist.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Chi Chapter
The Chi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was awarded a grant to support their Kappa League program for at-risk Boston youth.  Through the program, members of the fraternity support young men in leadership development and college preparation.  Funds from the grant were used towards the end-of-year celebration and to purchase Kappa League ties and shirts for the young men.

Amphibious Achievement
