Commencement is a momentous occasion for our graduates. It is a time to recognize both their enormous dedication and their remarkable achievements. Each year we look forward to giving our graduates a fitting tribute as we officially welcome them into the Northeastern alumni family.
The time-honored tradition of presenting inspiring speakers and honorary degree recipients at Commencement ceremony is one way to pay tribute to our graduates. Over the course of Northeastern's history, the University has welcomed into the Northeastern family a number of esteemed individuals whose ideals reflect our deepest core values: public servants, such as former President Bill Clinton and federal appeals court judge Sonia Sotamayor (now an associate justice on the Supreme Court); renowned scientists, including Dr. Judah Folkman and Dr. Susan Love; and respected artists, such as writer Maya Angelou and conductor Keith Lockhart, to name a few.
Northeastern is asking your help in identifying individuals of such caliber to participate in our Commencement exercises. We seek exemplary individuals who--through public service, scholarship, scientific discovery, technological advancement, the arts, business, or philanthropy--have made profound contributions to our society, in the United States and around the world. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work exemplifies Northeastern's distinctive innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and reinforces the University's reputation as a global institution engaged in solving the complex challenges of our time.
