Philanthropy 101

Who will benefit from my gift?

  • Your gift is considered an alumni donation, which will increase participation at the University and help move Northeastern up in the national and international rankings.
  • Student giving will encourage Northeastern alums to give back.
  • All gifts make a difference, regardless of the size. Giving back shows that you support the schools, college, faculty, and staff that have supported you while you were here.

Can seniors choose where to direct their gift?
Yes, students and alumni can choose to make gifts to any of the six different annual giving funds within The Northeastern Fund:

A large percentage of our students receive some form of financial aid. Gifts to this area will help ensure that the best and brightest are given the opportunity to attend Northeastern University.

Snell Library—the central research and study library on campus—and other campus libraries provide Northeastern University students with a rich array of resources in both print and electronic formats. Contributions to this area help ensure advances in digital resources and technology, the Dean's Innovation Fund, collections, and new electronic resources.

Cooperative Education
Northeastern’s co-op program is one of the largest and most innovative in the world. Students gain up to 18 months of professional experience related to their major or career interest with any of more than 2,000 employers across the country and in 88 cities around the world. Contributions to co-op provide students an avenue to intellectual and personal growth: adding depth to classroom studies, providing exposure to career paths and opportunities, and helping students develop a deeper understanding that leads to success in a world without boundaries.

Student Life
Gifts to this area enhance student life at Northeastern University and contribute to every student’s Northeastern memories.

Contributions to Northeastern’s schools and colleges are used by the deans for student and faculty research, facility enhancement, technology upgrades, student scholarship, and much more.

Northeastern University is committed to providing our student-athletes with an outstanding academic and athletic environment by raising funds for scholarships and athletic and recreational facilities, and by encouraging volunteer and fan involvement. Your support of NU athletics means our young men and women can compete at the highest level.
