Excellence in Teaching Award
This form is for students to nominate their professors for the excellence in teaching award for 2009. This award will be presented at May graduation ceremonies. Below, you will find a form designed to collect some basic information about you and the professor you wish to nominate. This form must be submitted before or on Wednesday March 11, 2009.
In the form you will be asked for a 150-250 word letter of support. The best method for adding your letter to this from is to prepare it in a word processing program, such as MS Word, and then paste it into the textbox. You can also type directly into the textbox if you prefer. When preparing the letter of support please address one or more of the selection criteria, listed below, that will be used by the committee to make the final decision.
- Indication of especially high intellectual standards in terms of course content, rigor, and integration of the best scholarship
- Depth of knowledge in the subject
- Evidence of scholarly and pedagogical growth as new knowledge is created and new classroom technology is developed
- Effective and inspiring links between teaching and research and/or experiential learning
- Extremely effective teaching strategies that encourage students to participate in the teaching-learning process, including (but not limited to) innovative uses of technology to enhance student learning, both in and out of the classroom
- Measures of breadth and depth of impact on undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral students’ intellectual development
- Extraordinary ability to communicate and otherwise ensure a rich learning experience.
- Other extraordinary, unique, or pioneering contributions to excellence in teaching.
