Learning Outcomes Assessment
During the last ten years some academic units and many individual faculty members have been working at defining student learning goals and assessing student progress toward these goals for the purpose of curriculum improvement. This section of the CIETL website is designed to celebrate our progress, introduce some key individuals, and help further learning outcomes assessment projects at Northeastern. Please use the navigation panel to the left as an aid to finding information.
Message from Mary Loeffelholz, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
The signature mode of experiential education at Northeastern University is rooted in the belief that learning is most powerful and lasting for our students—and for faculty as well--when it combines action with analysis and reflection in a continuous cycle of learning.
Our commitment to experiential education dovetails with our simultaneous commitment to assessment. In its broadest principles, assessment at Northeastern calls upon both faculty members and students to reflect upon the outcomes of our joint work; to arrive at plans for improving the results of our efforts; and to translate these plans into action.
The resources and contacts brought together on this site are intended to inform members of the Northeastern community about learning outcomes and assessment models across the full range of our academic programs, and to help faculty members learn from the best practices of colleagues here at Northeastern and elsewhere in the community of higher education.
