Northeastern University
Innovative Teachers

  • A recipient of Northeastern’s Excellence in Teaching Award, Professor Jacqueline Issacs is also a member of the GE Master Teachers Team. One of her main research projects involves assessing manufacturing processes for their environmental impact, and she often involves students in this research.
  • One of COE’s Gateway instructors, Professor Susan Freeman, sets freshmen up for success in the engineering program by inspiring them with high expectations and guiding their transition from high school to college. Professor Freeman and fellow Gateway instructors specialize in teaching first-year students and meet every two weeks to discuss how their courses are progressing.
  • Professor Thomas C. Sheahan enhances his civil and environmental engineering teachings by using a Bluetooth-endabled pen tablet during lectures, as well as by using interdisciplinary collaborative assessment to improve learning in his first-year engineering courses. Professor Sheahan is also a team member of Jonas Chalk, a teaching and learning advice collumn written by a group of interdisciplinary faculty and teaching/technology experts.
