Supply Chain Management

A supply chain manager makes critical decisions about how a company’s materials and products are stored, inventoried, and moved down the street or around the world. As companies become increasingly global, supply chain managers play a significant role in assessing the feasibility of international activity, while developing the supply and distribution networks to make it happen.

Northeastern’s program teaches students the technical aspects, along with strategy, research, and presentation skills. Many students complete a complementary business concentration such as marketing or finance, and find careers with manufacturers, retailers, and consulting firms.

Supply chain management courses begin with introducing the decisions that must be made and continue to advanced study of the formulation of supply chain strategies. The program culminates in a senior seminar where students meet industry leaders and develop individual research and presentation skills.

Because supply chain managers frequently interact with other areas of the business process, many students complete a second concentration in another area such as marketing, finance, or international business.

In addition to finding career opportunities with manufacturers, retailers, and distributors, supply chain management students find opportunities with companies that sell supply chain services or transportation services in the marketplace, such as consulting firms and government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels.
