Northeastern University College of Arts and Sciences
Theatre

Including Performance, Production, and Theatre Generalist

The study of theatre at Northeastern balances production theory and practice. Students study the skills and techniques of stage production, and view current and historic examples of superb theatre. Then, in the theatre production laboratory, they synthesize the ideas, theories, and practices that they have studied and put them into practice in public performances.

The theatre department produces four major productions each year. Students have the opportunity to act, stage manage, design, and staff the productions, and they work with faculty directors and professional designers.

In theatre, experiential education is a critical component. The experience students gain in the field enhances classroom discussions with living examples and augment résumés with responsible positions. Theatre majors may pursue advanced study in professional programs, careers as theatre practitioners, or careers in theatre education.
