History
Historians remind us of the context of our lives and draw on the lessons of the past to help shape the future. As a history major, you would learn to think historically, question critically, reason clearly, write persuasively, and argue effectively. Like history itself, these skills set the tone for your future.
Northeastern history majors work closely with faculty mentors to develop their intellectual, analytical, and rhetorical skills. Students learn advanced research methods and gain experience in using evidence and constructing written arguments.
The Bachelor of Arts is the broadly based liberal arts degree in history. It requires study of a foreign language and a range of Arts and Sciences courses that help students develop their knowledge in the contexts of the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The Bachelor of Science emphasizes greater specialization, a program of study either in public history or in a minor field, and a course in statistics.
Many history students also double-major in fields such as sociology, political science, journalism, art, and architecture. This positions students well to go on to graduate school. With the broad background of history, you can pursue careers in advertising, journalism, publishing, and teaching either domestically or overseas.
