Physical Therapy

Physical therapists ease discomfort, slow or prevent changes in physical function, and halt the progress of medical disorders. They work with people of all ages to improve movement and function, decrease pain, and restore mobility, such as athletes, children, and elders.

Our six-year clinical doctorate begins with course work in the basic sciences and targeted liberal arts. And, Northeastern offers the only physical therapy (PT) program in the United States that features co-op. In addition to honing students’ professional skills, co-op placements teach them how to communicate with health-care professionals and patients, how the health-care system works, and the importance of teamwork in the field.

The PT field is growing as more patients and doctors understand the therapeutic and preventive value of its practices. Physical therapists are highly respected members of the health-care community who work in hospital and rehabilitation settings, with sports teams, in health clubs, and in private practice. Our students are in constant demand in Boston’s rich medical environment and in hospitals around the country.
