India’s eleventh president Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, visited the NSF Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing on April 27, 2009. Associate Research Scientist Dr. Sivasubramanian Somu gave a tour of George Kostas J. Kostas Nanoscale Technology & Manufacturing Research Center. Dr. Somu briefly explained the current research projects that are being carried out at the center to enable large scale high volume manufacturing of nanoscale devices in a short period of time. With great enthusiasm and interest Dr. Kalam interacted with students and researchers associated with CHN. Dr. Kalam also held stimulating round table discussions with Dr. Sivasubramanian Somu, Prof. Latika menon and Prof. Renugopalakrishnan about the current and future energy challenges facing the humankind and how nanotechnology can be tapped to cater the energy needs of next generation. He was an invited speaker in the opening session of Northeastern University Center for Renewable Energy Technology (NUCRET) sponsored a three day symposium "Energy Challenges for the New Millennium" held from April.
