The department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology offers education in basic chemistry and modern chemistry-related disciplines.

Our faculty carry out state-of-the-art research in a wide variety of experimental and theoretical fields, including bioanalysis, bio-organic and medicinal chemistry, biophysicsal chemistry, computational biology, nanomaterials, and proteomics. Northeastern University is an ideal place to meet the challenges that chemical professionals face daily through exciting co-op positions in local high-tech industries.

All of our undergraduate chemistry majors have their own dedicated class and laboratory sections, with sizes ranging from 10-24. All these classes are taught by our full time research leaders whose goal is clear – to help you succeed!

We are a top producer of chemistry M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Boston, and our graduate program ranks in the top 20 nationally for degree (M.S.) granting. We were also selected as one of only four sites in the nation for an NSF-NIH interdisciplinary (IGERT) doctoral training program.

There are several corporate sponsored research & applications laboratories in the chemistry and chemical biology department, including ones sponsored by Waters and Bruker.

Northeastern University is ideally positioned in the heart of the Biotechnology Supercluster and Medical Hub, including Harvard Medical School teaching hospitals and research centers, such as New England Medical Center, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Beth-Israel Deaconess Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
